Simana is a Senior Associate in the firm’s Biotech and Pharma Practice Group and holds over six years of patent experience in the chemical, pharmaceutical, biomedical, and mechanical arts.
Simana started her career at a patent services firm in Alexandria, VA, where she received training in patent research. While at the firm, she performed invalidity, infringement/freedom-to-operate, and patentability searches in the fields of coatings/adhesives, polymers, organic compounds, automotive applications, and semi-conductor technologies.
Simana then went on to work in L’Oréal USA’s Patent Department as a Patent Information Scientist. While at L’Oréal, Simana performed freedom to operate reviews on cosmetic products before launch and advised formulation labs on key competitor patents in order to avoid patent infringement. Simana worked with inventors in drafting patent applications and assisted in the prosecution of patents in various technologies such as surfactant systems, silicone polymeric compounds and oxidative dye applications. Having come from this background, Simana is well aware of the client’s needs in building a strategic patent portfolio and protecting itself from potential lawsuits for infringement.
Simana served as an intern for the Honorable Jose Linares in the U.S. District Court of New Jersey-Newark in 2009.
