Simana is J.D. Candidate and holds over five years of patent experience in the chemical, biomedical, and mechanical arts. She is working on a contract basis for McNeely & Hare LLP.
She started her career at a patent services firm in Alexandria, VA, where she received training in patent research. She performed invalidity, infringement/freedom-to-operate, and patentability searches in the fields of coatings/adhesives, polymers, organic compounds, automotive applications, and semi-conductor technologies.
Simana then went on to work in L'Oréal USA's Patent Department as a Patent Information Scientist. While at L'Oréal, Simana performed freedom to operate reviews on cosmetic products before launch. She also advised formulation labs on key competitor patents in order to avoid patent infringement by summarizing the competitor patent climate in different technology areas. Her other functions included drafting patent applications and assisting in the prosecution of patents in technologies such as surfactant systems, silicone polymeric compounds and oxidative dye applications.
Simana served as an intern for the Honorable Jose Linares in the U.S. District Court of New Jersey-Newark in 2009.
